Lithium golf cart batteries can last 10 to 20 years if properly maintained. This is much longer than the 2 to 5 years that lead-acid batteries typically last.

Upgrading your golf cart to a lithium battery offers numerous advantages, including longer lifespan, faster charging, reduced weight, and better performance. This guide reliable process for converting your golf cart from lead-acid to lithium batteries.

Step 1: Gather Required Tools & Equipment

? Lithium battery pack (compatible with your golf cart’s voltage)
? Lithium-compatible charger (lead-acid chargers won’t work)
? Basic tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, wire cutters)
? Battery cables (check if you need upgraded ones)
? Battery meter (optional but recommended for monitoring charge levels)

Step 2: Remove the Old Lead-Acid Batteries

  1. Turn off the cart & disconnect the power. Ensure the key is removed.
  2. Disconnect the negative (-) cable first, then the positive (+) cable.
  3. Carefully remove the lead-acid batteries. They are heavy, so use assistance if needed.
  4. Clean the battery compartment to remove corrosion or acid residue.

Step 3: Install the Lithium Battery Pack

  1. Place the lithium batteries securely in the battery compartment.
  2. Connect the cables: Follow the same wiring setup as the old batteries.
    • If using multiple batteries, connect them in series to match the required voltage.
  3. Ensure proper polarity (red = positive, black = negative).
  4. Secure the batteries using mounting brackets or straps to prevent movement.

Step 4: Install a Lithium Battery Charger

  • Lithium batteries require a special charger—do not use your old lead-acid charger.
  • Connect the charger per the manufacturer’s instructions.

Step 5: Test & Verify Functionality

  1. Turn on the golf cart and check the battery voltage.
  2. Test drive at low speed to ensure smooth operation.
  3. Monitor performance – Check for any error codes on the BMS if applicable.

Yes, golf cart lithium batteries are generally safe when used and maintained properly. They offer several advantages over traditional lead-acid batteries, including longer lifespan, faster charging, and better energy efficiency. However, like any battery technology, they come with safety considerations.

Yes, lithium batteries are generally better for golf carts than lead-acid batteries. They are more reliable, longer lasting, and require less maintenance. Our Lithium batteries can last 10 years or more, while lead-acid batteries typically last 5–6 years.

Installing lithium batteries in a golf cart generally costs between $1,500 and $4,000.

Yes, Lithium batteries are about half the weight of lead-acid batteries, have a higher energy density, which allows the golf cart to accelerate faster, because they are lighter and have more power than traditional lead-acid batteries.
